BOM Karting Team Impresses with Strong Performance in Round 2 of the Turkish Karting Championship
News - 18 May 2026

Borusan Otomotiv Motorsport (BOM) Karting Team delivered another successful weekend at the second round of the Motul 2026 Turkish Karting Championship, held at İzmit Körfez Circuit on May 16–17. Competing across three different categories, BOM Karting drivers secured a total of three podium finishes and collected valuable championship points.

Competing in the Micro Support Cup, Yiğit Nedim Çelik maintained the consistency he demonstrated in the opening round. Showing strong pace throughout the weekend, the young driver secured second place, reinforcing the success he achieved in the first round of the season.

In the Mini category, one of the standout performances of the weekend came from Asil Yusuf Özbahadır. Joining BOM Karting this season and making his competitive debut with the team, Özbahadır impressed with his consistency from qualifying through the heats, semi-final, and final races. The young driver claimed second place in his first race weekend, sending a strong message to his rivals for the remainder of the season.

Another driver making his first appearance for BOM Karting in the Mini category was Ercüment Ali Karacan. Delivering a competitive and determined performance throughout the weekend, Karacan narrowly missed out on a podium finish in the final race and completed the event in fifth place. Meanwhile, one of the team’s promising young talents, Can Kalkan, continued his development during his rookie season. With a determined performance and steadily improving pace, he finished ninth and showed encouraging potential for the upcoming rounds.

After missing the opening round due to an international racing commitment, Süleyman Cem Karakömür returned to the team for Round 2. Competing in the Junior category for the first time after progressing from Mini, the talented driver continued to demonstrate his speed and racecraft, securing a second-place finish for the weekend.

Throughout much of the Junior category competition, Süleyman Cem Karakömür and Efe Ayhan were at the center of the battle for the lead. The pair consistently occupied the top two positions throughout the weekend and faced particularly challenging conditions during the final race. Heavy rain at the start, followed by a rapidly drying track, created a difficult situation for drivers running wet-weather setups. Karakömür led for a significant portion of the race before crossing the finish line in second place, while Ayhan, who had been running second, eventually finished fifth as track conditions evolved. Both young drivers showcased impressive speed and determination, providing strong optimism for the remainder of the season.

The third round of the 2026 Turkish Karting Championship will take place on June 27–28 at Tuzla Karting Park in Istanbul.
