Borusan Otomotiv Motorsport Team Crowned Their Outstanding Effort in GT4 European Series Round 3 with a Trophy

News - 04 July 2024

Borusan Otomotiv Motorsport (BOM) concluded the 3rd round of the GT4 European Series with two trophies thanks to their exceptional performance. The races, held on June 28-29 at Spa Francorchamps—one of the most iconic tracks in motorsport history celebrating its 100th anniversary this year—once again highlighted the importance of a team composed of harmonious members. Borusan Otomotiv Motorsport, capturing attention with their rising success in the GT4 European Series, never gave up despite their cars sustaining damage four times during practice laps and races. BOM drivers Berkay Besler and Gabriele Piana finished the second race in third place, taking the podium, while Pedro Ebrahim won the Rookie Cup in the first race.

Demonstrating exceptional performance since the beginning of the season, Borusan Otomotiv Motorsport raised the bar higher with each race. Despite facing numerous unforeseeable setbacks over the weekend, the team managed to secure their place on the podium.

The BMW M4 GT4 with car number 12, driven by Berkay Besler and Gabriele Piana, began the race weekend with unofficial practice laps. After sustaining severe damage, it was rendered irreparable. However, thanks to the dedicated efforts of the technical team, a backup car was quickly prepared, allowing them to participate in the first free practice session.

In the first race held on Friday, June 28, Berkay Besler and Gabriele Piana had to withdraw after Berkay collided with a competitor, resulting in damage to their car. The duo of Yağız Gedik and Pedro Ebrahim, competing with car number 11, advanced from the 20th position to finish in 8th place, showcasing outstanding performance. As a result, Pedro Ebrahim once again claimed the Rookie Cup victory, as he had done in the first and second rounds.

In the second race on Saturday, June 29, Yağız Gedik and Pedro Ebrahim started from 30th place due to a penalty. Despite this setback, the drivers pushed hard to turn the situation in their favor. Although their car became unusable following a last-lap incident involving Yağız and a competitor in the final corner, they crossed the finish line and secured 6th place.

Berkay Besler and Gabriele Piana, despite facing numerous challenges throughout the weekend, demonstrated exceptional effort alongside their team, finishing the second day in third place after starting in 8th.

Having represented Turkey in the GT4 European Series for seven consecutive years, BOM climbed one spot in the team standings to secure 6th place.

The 4th round of the GT4 European Series will take place on July 20-21 at the Hockenheimring in Germany. The races will be broadcast live on S Sport and S Sport+ channels.
